What is Teeth Whitening?
It is a cosmetic management aims to bleach tooth color itself with exclusive agent. It is different from stain removing. Teeth whitening make tooth color brighter without any reduction of teeth, as compared with porcelain veneer.
There are two types of teeth whitening, “office bleaching” and “home bleaching”.
Office Bleaching
Advantage
- The effect is more acute because of high concentrated agent.
Disadvantages
- The agent is reacted to light exposure. Thus, back teeth are difficult to be bleached.
- The bleaching effect speedy, but it relapses more soon, too.
The Procedure of Office Bleaching
We will ask your expectation and questions about teeth whitening at first. And then explain the details of treatment, charge, and precautions.
Removing the stain on the surface of teeth before bleaching and checking the true tooth color before treatment. We compare the pre and post treatment color by taking photos.
Packing the lips with protecting sheet because lips tend to get dry during bleaching.
Covering tooth germs with protectors. Coating whole surfaces of teeth with bleaching agent, then activating it with light exposure.
Polishing teeth with exclusive paste that restore enamels. It prevents hypersensitivity and relapse.
At last, we check the change of tooth color together by comparing photos before and after.
Office Bleaching
Advantage
- Bleached color is difficult to relapse.
- The patients can have bleaching fitting to their life style.
- It can be combined with office bleaching.
Disadvantages
- It takes longer time to feel the improvement of tooth color.
- The patients need to have bleaching procedures by themselves.
The Procedure of Home Bleaching
We will ask your expectation and questions about teeth whitening at first. And then explain the details of treatment, charge, and precautions.
Removing the stain on the surface of teeth before bleaching and checking the true tooth color before treatment. Since home whitening is performed with individual trays, we will take impression for making them.
We will give the trays and agent to the patients and explain how to use them.
We check the post-treatment color several weeks later and compare to pretreatment color. We also check if there is symptom of hypersensitivity.
Precautions
- It is necessary to take care of dietary during tooth whitening. Besides, some patients nay have symptom of hypersensitivity.
- It does not work to artificial prosthesis. On the other hands, some teeth react less to the bleaching agent.
- The patients during pregnancy, during breast-feeding, and under 18 y/o, are not available to have tooth bleaching.
